Core Gallery in action!

In this insecure and heady world of art and creativity, I and Elizabeth as spearhead and momentum gatherer of many people’s ideas at Cor Blimey helped establish a gallery ,created in two shows so far, in two months , that most edifying addictive atmosphere that celebrates the expressiveness of exciting contemporary art, opened up wondrous conversations and serious discussion,created opportunities for artists, established relationships with artists, curators and fellow visionaries. All held up , supported and channelled by my fellow believers at Core

I have been dazzled by Chantelle, Enver, Leyla's, Neil, Arnold and Gillian's hard work who have also been key in this, by Lizzie who has stepped in as well. I am awed by the genorosity of local galleries and studios such as Bearspace , The Agency and Creekside and all the artists and curators who have joined us so far and are part of the core family now; Nick Kaplony and Helen Griffiths

……Although I feel finally part of something I am also at times a little scared by the responsibility of it all ! but driven too!

Exquisite Opening.

I owe an apology! A whole week without update on how the Exquisite Corpse private view and first week went. I have battling with a funding application ( more weeping and comforting tea at hand, thank you also Emily Speed for the consolation! )

Well , the Exquisite Corpse exhibition has been going very very well. About 450 people have come through the doors- local artists, studios, galleries, collectors, the general public, important people from various organisations have also come in support. It feels very very great to be part of something.
The private view was super excellent fun with some fantastic performance from La Donne and live music from the Islington Boys Club and Sex Funeral , who I somehow got wangled into singing with.

We also sold a piece, Lucy Newman’s ‘ Prehistoric Landscape’ to the University of the Arts Collection . Not bad going for a first timer gallery!


Exquisite Corpse is reaching the end of its time with us and its gone so quickly and so well! A great first exhibition. We are now looking forward to an

The last couple of days we have been setting up Exquisite Corpse with Nick Kaplony and Helen Griffiths, sorting out and tidying the existing space, everyone mucking in and now all but one piece is up and it looks Exqusite. Justin Richel’s work is stuck in Customs and we are hoping will arrive any minute. …

We have all actually fallen a little bit in love with Nick, he is such an excellent, fun and intelligent guy. Although he is laidback, he is super competent and knows exactly what he is doing- a refreshing attitude in my experience!

Yesterday we had 3 prestigious curators in the space for meetings, Nick of course, then Zoe Whitley from the V& A and Eva Langret from Delfina. All here gladly. Zoe and Eva came here to talk about our next exhibition at Core Gallery which they are curating: Wilderness, featuring me, Enver Gursev and Neil Kelly, opening in May. A night of group discussion which was fantastic.

I cannot believe the progress that has been made in the last few months. I genuinely feel astounded. I came to Cor Blimey Arts Studios just 7 months ago and here we are with a gallery about to open, working with some incredible people.
I was remembering how I met Nick, through a one to one on Artquest about 3 years or so ago, I kept in touch and now, well its unbelievable to think here we are now, working together on a show. An unbelievably Exquisite exhibition and an ambitious exhibition programme that people want to be part of.
Right now I am dancing!
Tomorrow, gulp, we launch!

Exquisite Corpse- our launch is confirmed!

Our launch show for Core Gallery, opening on the 30th April has been decided:

"Exquisite Corpse" An Exhibition and Curatorial experiment by 11 International artists and curators. Co-ordinated by Nick Kaplony

‘Also known as "exquisite cadaver" or "rotating corpse" Exquisite Corpse is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled

In this context Exquisite Corpse is an experimental approach to constructing an exhibition selected in response to the corridor like structure of the Core gallery itself. A number of curators and artists have gathered to play and to construct the Corpse. The game works like this. A chain of curators/selectors is established, the first curator in the chain selects an artist for inclusion in the show. The next curator in the chain selects an artist in response to the work selected by the previous work selected. Each curator can only see the selection of the previous link in the chain so it continues and so it continues until the Corpse is completed.’ Nick Kaplony
